I’ve used this product for about a year now and have tried all three flavours. I’ve found a whey protein powder that works for me and here’s why.

The Benefits

It’s high in protein and low in carbohydrates, a factor in my perfect lean muscle building formula. Contain L-leucine, one of the most important amino acids used for muscle building. Furthermore, it contains l-valine and L-isoleucine, which are also important amino acids for muscle growth.

All three are essential in muscle repair and growth. These can all be found in meats, fish and dairy products for example, but because they must be gained through diet, it is useful to supplement them too.

It has a high proportion of protein and lower in carbs, so I usually have one shake per day, and occasionally I skip a day because my diet gives me enough protein. The product lasts me over a month and I have stretched it to 2 months before by having half servings sometimes, which still have nearly 20g of protein!

Strawberry is best. I’m not usually a fan of strawberry flavour in general. However, compared to other shakes it tastes great! The other flavours can be a bit sickly but are also nice, so if you don’t like strawberry, there is a good alternative.

The Drawbacks

It contains lactose, therefore is unsuitable for people who are lactose intolerant. Furthermore, it doesn’t have the same benefit if mixed only with milk. I sometimes mix with half milk and half water, but mixing with water alone has had the most noticeable benefit to my energy levels and also my recovery time.

The product recipe has also been changed and has less protein than it did in the past, however 74g of protein per 100g and 33g of protein per serving is still very high!

The Comparison

The main difference is that this is suitable for vegans and suitable for people who are lactose intolerant, so you can still enjoy the benefits of a protein powder without the cramps and nausea faced when lactose intolerant etc.

Also, this product contains great levels of B6, B12 and magnesium and similar levels of low carbs high protein mix. Vitamin B6 and B12 are useful for giving the body energy and must be gained through our diet, so you can tick that off! This is another perfect option to build lean muscle. It is made up of plant based proteins as opposed to the glutamine that is in the Ultra whey. This can make it easier to digest which is great if you have a busy day and really don’t want to be bloated!


Why buy either of these products?

From experience, both have helped me build lean muscle whilst getting a bigger and better shape. Both last a long time if taken once a day and taste pretty good. Both will give you the same benefit of good value for money and good results. The only real difference is if you are lactose intolerant then the second product is more suitable for you!

    I wasn’t familiar with these before. I will definitely check them out as I need to find a way to get more protein in my diet, without spending a lot of time in preparation. A protein shake is an easy way to add some protein without lots of extra carbs or fat, which I like. Do you think its better to use protein shakes before or after a workout or as a meal replacement? Not sure what the best way to use them is. Thanks.

    1. There are specific pre workout shakes you can try, however the products I’ve mentioned here are most suitable after workouts. I sometimes have a protein shake before bed so that it doesn’t get in the way of any of my meals and I get even more protein.
